A man is dead and 4 others injured in a shooting in Syracuse’s famous armory plaza


Syracuse, NY – A 24-year-old man was killed and four others injured when shots were fired shortly after midnight in Syracuse’s popular Armory Square.

At around 12:13 a.m. Saturday, police responded when people reported multiple gunshots in the 300 block of South Clinton Street, according to Sgt. Thomas Blake, Syracuse police spokesman.

This area is usually crowded on weekends with local residents and students enjoying the local bars and restaurants.

The five victims are between the ages of 20 and 25 and were all shot in the street, Blake said.

Police found five people with gunshot wounds and immediately began treating the victims at the scene, he said.

A 24-year-old man was pronounced dead at a local hospital, Blake said. Another person is in critical condition, he said.

Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

The shooting took place in an area with many bars and restaurants. Popular street spots include Al’s Wine and Whiskey Lounge, Three Lives, Clinton Street Pub, and Funk ‘n Waffles.

Several evidence markers and loose clothing were strewn on the sidewalk outside Al’s Wine and Whiskey lounge, Blake said. The shooting happened just yards from the popular bar, he said.

Police have not announced any arrests or suspicious information at this time.
