A time capsule from the 90s in Sugar Land available for $4.75 million

Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to travel back in time to the 1990s. A huge house built for fun in the Houston area is back on the market.

Although it was built in 2004, the decor, color schemes, and geometric flourishes are a vivid flashback to the era.

“This house is the ideal artist’s house. They have disco balls with a dance floor upstairs in the game room,” the listing agent explains, Samy Younis with Re/Max Sud-Ouest. “They also have seven TVs in the game room and a fully functional bar that looks like it came out of an upscale Beverly Hills club.”

This large party space spans an entire upstairs wing of this 17,520 square foot home in the gated community of Sweetwater Estates in Sugar Land, TX. It has been on the market for several years and the current list price is $4.75 million. It was on the market for no less than $11 million in 2010.

“They are not so motivated to sell. Sometimes they want to sell, and other times they say they really like the place because they are the original owners,” Younis explains.

In an understatement, he also mentions that it’s a big enough place for the two people who currently live there.

From the outside, the house looks like a traditional Texas mansion. Inside the front door you will find an entrance flanked by huge decorative columns.

“When you first walk in there are really high ceilings and this really unique piece of art hanging where the chandelier would hang. I’ve never seen this kind of piece before,” Younis says.

The artwork, which the owners commissioned for the space, is part of the sale.

“Then you look straight ahead, and you have this bridge that crosses this canal with a wall of water, and it goes all the way to the formal living room,” Younis explains.

Below deck is a space that recycles water up the two-story water wall. The formal living room features floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the pool and golf course.

Younis says he thinks the house reflects the owners’ love for Las Vegas.

Outstanding cuisine is also very, very far from tradition.

“It’s super different. It’s a brilliant blue contemporary kitchen,” he says, noting his unusual geometric choices.

“The sink has a unique shape, and it has this glass that acts as a bar, just a floating glass countertop,” he says.

For additional food preparation, there is a catering kitchen nearby. The exterior has a large kitchen area, as well as an additional kitchen in the cabana.

The house has three laundry rooms, one of which is adjoining the master bedroom, and six other bedrooms, each with a sitting area and an adjoining bathroom.

“They’re plush, with double sinks, separate shower and tub, and all very high-end,” Younis says.

If space inside the main house isn’t enough, there is also a full guest apartment above the six-car garage.

“It’s great for pool parties,” Younis says. “It backs onto Sweetwater Golf Course which is a very prestigious and private country club.”

The real highlight of the house, however, is the two-story entertainment area.

“On the second floor of the game room, there is a sitting area overlooking the room below,” Younis explains.

This lower room has a dance floor, a pool table and a bar with an air-conditioned wine cellar behind. But wait, there’s more.

Younis notes the 1950s-style old Hollywood foyer in front of the movie theater and movie theater that seats a large number of people.

He acknowledges that this distinctive design will take on a unique buyer, perhaps “an athlete or someone having a lot of fun”.

Alternatively, he ventures, “Maybe a younger person who really values uniqueness and doesn’t want to conform to the traditional house.”
