CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Cebu City Police Office or CCPO encourages facilities in Cebu City to continue to adhere to health protocols.

Police Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director of operations, made the call after their inspection last night (June 25) at establishments in three parts of the city showed that these bars and restaurants followed sanitary protocols.

This followed the surprise inspection on June 20 or the Oplan Bulabog of a high-end bar in Barangay Luz, where at least 100 people were caught violating curfew and health protocols.

Parilla said the inspection was carried out after the city recorded an increase in COVID-19 cases where the majority of patients had visited resto-bars and restaurants in the city.

As of June 25, the Ministry of Health of the Central Visayas announced at least 55 new cases in Cebu city alone.

Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, head of the CCPO, led surprise inspections in three large areas where mainly resto-bars and restaurants were located: Cebu IT Park, 88th Avenue in Barangay Banilad and Panagdait in Barangay Kasambagan.

“Naa ray ginagmay as kadtong mga wala ma follow the numbers of nga sa clients, although naay hawan pero naa may ubang grupo gud nga daghan pero anhi ras gamay nga table magtapok, mao ray na caution gabie,” he said .

(We noticed slight violations. There are those who did not track the number of customers per table, although there are some empty spaces, some groups prefer to use a smaller table where they will be gathered and instead violate social distancing.)

Overall, Parilla said property owners have followed protocols and only a few have been warned for not respecting authorized table occupants.

He added that they looked forward to all establishments in Cebu City to persist in adhering to all protocols.

Aside from the apprehensions of June 20 over curfew and health protocol violations, authorities also arrested an Irishman during one of these surprise inspections and he was arrested after resisting arrest.

Besides CCPO chief Ligan, those who joined in the surprise inspections last night, June 25, included Cebu City Acting Mayor Michael Rama; Councilor Joel Garganera, who is responsible for the implementation of the Emergency Operations Center; and retired General Mel Feliciano, deputy head of IATF implementation in the Visayas.
