After closing during the pandemic, Khayelitsha’s multi-storey boutique restaurant The Milk Restaurant is back, complete with a new champagne bar on its rooftop.
The Milk Restaurant and Bar, first launched in 2018, but became another victim of Covid-19 in 2020.
It’s now back as The Milk Restaurant and Champagne Bar, and is about seven minutes from the brand new The Spade Boutique Hotel and Spa.

The restaurant and bar, founded by Spelo Jalivane, allow guests to relax and wine and dine on the same property, but on different floors.
Jalivane created the restaurant with her own money. Although the business was very successful, it was not without difficulties that contributed to its closure, he said.
“I opened the business too early. I was in a hurry and wanted to get it off the ground, not knowing the challenges I would face with the infrastructure. I took the necessary kitchen equipment for granted, and this had a negative impact on service delivery,” says Jalivane.
During the lockdown, Jalivane spent time fine-tuning the restaurant and enlisted help from the owners of a popular restaurant in Khayelitsha, Rands Cape Town, run by brothers Mbeki, Mfundo and Mshayi, with whom he now hangs out. associate.
“The lockdown forced me to sit and simmer in my reality. It saved me because through it I developed a healthy business relationship with the two successful brothers and Mecca Kings in outdoors,” Jalivane said.
The ground floor was previously the restaurant and is now a full time liquor store with a separate entrance leading to the restaurant and champagne bar. It offers a wide selection of beers, ciders, wines and alcoholic beverages.
The restaurant is on the first floor, which now focuses on semi-fine dining, instead of its original fine dining experience with options ranging from seafood to grills and light fare.

The roof houses the champagne bar with a lounge setting and overlooks the township of Khayelitsha.
It offers premium drinks such as champagne, cognac and whiskey. Its lounge setting has deckchairs with 4 to 10 seats to accommodate groups.
