Opening and closing of each restaurant this week, from September 26 to October 2

While there are no closings to report this week, one is ahead. On September 30, Brass Tacks announced it would close the downtown bar on October 10. “It’s been a few years now that I’ve been trying to swim upstream with COVID and a difficult downturn in business and staff and all of those things,” the co-owner said. Stuart Jensen. “We just had to take a close look at it and realize that it was no longer in the cards and that it was better for us and for all of our sanity that we stop trying to fight it.”

While the effects of COVID continue to have a significant impact on the hospitality industry, particularly in the city center where many workers still have not returned, other areas of the city continue to evolve. On Larimer Street in RiNo, New York-inspired restaurant Greenwich opened this week, as did a second location for Indian spot Himchuli. And at neighboring number thirty-eight, Split Lip, a pop-up born out of a pandemic, has found a new home for its hyper-regional cuisine.

On 17th Avenue East, La Bouche wine bar now serves wine alongside a menu that includes French classics like croque madame and egg mayonnaise as well as cheese and charcuterie boards. Across town on Tennyson Street, De Steeg Brewing this week became the Berkeley Alley Beer Company, run by new owners Matt Kirchhevel and Ty Kain.

And there’s a whole new reason to visit Larimer Square. Josh Schmitz’s Handsome Boys Hospitality continues its run there with a Halloween-themed pop-up bar called Spirits that will be open daily until the end of the month.
