HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A 17-year-old charged with murder over an accident that killed three young men who worked as valets in southwest Houston first appeared in court Thursday morning.

Ahmedal Tayeb Elnouman Modawi used a walker to appear before a judge because of the injuries he sustained in the accident.

A judge set Modawi a total bond of $ 350,000: $ 100,000 for each of the three murder charges and $ 50,000 for an aggravated assault with serious bodily harm.

Modawi, a valet at Café Mawal, is accused of taking a customer’s car without his permission on Friday night and making donuts in a nearby parking lot.

In an exclusive surveillance video obtained by ABC13, a patrol car enters the scene, makes a circle, and then initiates a traffic check.

Police said Modawi escaped officers and drove the car a few blocks from Fairdale before crashing into Fnan Measho, 18, Eric Orduna, 22, and Nick Rodriguez, 23, killing them.

The three young men were valets for the Prospect Park Sports Bar. They were returning to the bar after parking cars when they were hit.

According to details revealed in court on Wednesday, Modawi escaped police about 0.6 miles before the crash. A judge said he was driving 60 mph, which is double the speed limit in the area.

In addition to the three pedestrians killed, Modawi passenger Mohammed Alkatip, 16, was thrown from the vehicle and had two legs broken. Alkatip, also a valet at Café Mawal, was released from the hospital on Tuesday, according to court details.

The judge said Modawi is currently in high school and has not been charged before. He is not a US citizen and is from Sudan.

Modawi has received a bond monitoring order. He is not allowed to drive without a judge’s approval, cannot use illegal drugs or alcohol, cannot use a firearm, and must remain in Harris County.

If Modawi respects his bond, he will also have to surrender his Sudanese passport.
