Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse isn’t due out for 10 months, but in a surprise trailer revealed early Sunday, Marvel and Sony Pictures gave us our first look at the Oscar-winning Spider-Man sequel: Into the Spider-Verse. -Verse. Officially, it’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) – it’s a mouthful, I know – because the sequel to Into the Spider-Verse has been split into two parts. The first look at Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse reunites Miles Morales / Spider-Man (voiced by Shameik Moore) and his transdimensional love interest Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld), before crossing over to other dimensions, including what is clearly India for a moment.
Meanwhile, Sony Pictures India has announced that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in theaters in India.
Miles listens to “Sunflower” – the hit song by Post Malone and Swae Lee introduced in Into the Spider-Verse – in his bedroom at the opening of the trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) . He has no idea that there is a multidimensional portal open above him, through which Gwen looks home. After Gwen finally gets her attention by calling out her name, the goofy Miles tries to clean up her act and inquire about her welfare. âUgh, that’s a long story,â Gwen said, âis this the room you grew up in? Miles tries to play the game by hiding objects that are not very “adult”, before Gwen stumbles upon her drawings in a book. She thinks they’re good, but her face changes after spotting one of them.
“I missed you too,” Gwen said insolently as she handed her book back to him. Miles wonders what Gwen is doing here in her dimension, as he assumed he would never see her again. “Do you want to get out of here? Gwen asks her without providing an answer, although it’s possible that the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) trailer cuts something in between to hide spoiler stuff. Miles says he’s grounded at home, and Gwen turns around through the window, saying “Bummer”. As Miles runs to catch up with her, Gwen asks Miles, “Is Spider-Man grounded?” Miles hesitates a bit, but as Gwen looks up in her Spider-Woman costume, Miles seems to agree.
Cut to Miles in a suit thrown through dimensional portals, before ending up in what we soon realize is a futuristic take on India that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) has concocted. The background music changes to confirm this, with Indian instruments marking the scene. You may even spot words in the Devanagari script in the background, including “New Milan Family Resto Bar” and then an onomatopoeia with “dhadaam” – which loosely translates to crash here in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. (Part One) trailer – as Spider-Man 2099 / Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac) goes through another portal and crashes into Miles. Soon they jump through another portal into another dimension.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to release on October 7, 2022 in theaters around the world. In India, Across the Spider-Verse will be released in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
