The Filipino Festival returns to Virginia Beach this weekend

Filipino heritage, food and fun are on the menu this weekend at Mount Trashmore.

October is Filipino American History Month, and the Thread Fest USA 2021 kicks off Saturday with a contest and Filipino folk dance. Mayor Bobby Dyer will greet the crowd at noon.

Virginia Beach has the largest Filipino population at Hampton Roads and is home to the Virginia Philippine Cultural Center in Kempsville.

Chicago comedian Erick Esteban and SNRG (Some Never Really Get) hip-hop artists from Northern Virginia will have fun on Saturday. Guests will also learn more about a Historic road marker in Virginia Beach who will honor the legacy of the members of the United States Navy from the Philippines who settled at Hampton Roads.

The Buko Resto-Bar food truck will serve Filipino street food. Bambu and Maria & Isabel will offer desserts.

Local churches will lead the events on Sunday morning. Shadowlawn Eats Restaurant will bring a mountain of lumpia, also known as Filipino Egg Rolls, for the Lumpia Eating Contest. The winner’s name will be inscribed on a champion’s belt.
