The Hilton Porto Gaia opens its doors in a former port warehouse • Hotel Designs

“In partnership with Sabersal – Promoção Turística e Imobiliária, SA, we are delighted to open Hilton Porto Gaia, our second Portuguese property under our flagship brand Hilton Hotels & Resorts,” said David Kelly, Senior Vice President, Continental Europe, Hilton. “Although modern in style, the old warehouse of the port retains its original shape in harmony with the architecture of the region, connecting guests to the history and culture of Vila Nova de Gaia through its elements of unique design and locally inspired food and drink options. This opening solidifies our commitment to Portugal, with Hilton Porto Gaia being the first in a series of new openings that will see Hilton’s portfolio more than double in the years to come.

A 40 million euro project development project has preserved the classic form and structure of the property, while substantial renovations have taken place influenced by the uniqueness of the building. Drawing on the rich heritage of Porto-Gaia, the interior of the hotel was designed by the award-winning Portuguese designer Nini by Andrade Silva to offer contemporary comfort and sophisticated design over eight floors and a space of 32,000 square meters. The hotel’s rooms have also been designed with the building’s history in mind, and many offer excellent views of the Douro River and the historic center of Porto-Gaia.

With a range of food and drink options, guests can enjoy the hotel’s two bars and restaurant, the latter being run by celebrity chef Hugo Portela. Portela is inspired by authentic local cuisine, interpreted with a modern and contemporary twist using local ingredients. The two bars of the building are an extension of this concept, with spaces dedicated to artisanal coffee prepared by specialist baristas and to the art of mixology, with signature cocktails that can be enjoyed with a panoramic view of the river banks. Douro.

The hotel’s wellness center, which spans over 1,100 square meters, emphasizes slow beauty, a holistic approach to body, mind and spirit. You can relax in dedicated rest areas and enjoy the heated indoor swimming pool, which references the building’s port history with its garnet-toned design. The space is also home to a vibrant fitness center, with a fully equipped gym open to the public, and a stylish studio ideal for practicing yoga, pilates, and clinical pilates.

Hilton Porto Gaia also offers more than 2,200 square meters of dedicated conference, event and meeting rooms. The expansive meeting space includes a magnificent ballroom that can accommodate up to 600 people and an impressive auditorium, which comfortably seats 350 participants and is equipped with the latest technology, including an elevator stage.
