One of River Walk’s most distinguished hotel properties toasts its new amenity: a one-of-a-kind cocktail bar serving a selection of tequilas and mezcals found nowhere else in the city of Alamo.
Considered the only tequila bar in San Antonio, Naranja tequila and mezcal bar just opened at Valencia Riverwalk Hotel and features an impressive curated menu showcasing the best of the spirit of agave alongside an extensive offering of mezcals.
Naranja’s menu includes blanco, reposado, añejo and cristalino tequilas, with the bar also featuring some of Mexico’s most iconic tequila and mezcal brands, including Lalo, Clase Azul, Casamigos, Tears of Llorona, Maestro Dobel, Tres Generaciones , Del Maguey Vida, Dos Amigos and Cases Dragones.
In addition to tequila and mezcal served direct and in-flight for sipping, Naranja’s menu also includes a range of tequila and mezcal cocktails, and a tapas menu of small plates that complement the tequila and mezcal offerings and offer a short break for the palate.
Whether visitors and locals opt for a drink or a craft cocktail, Naranja aims to become not only a welcoming bar, but also a unique knowledge-driven cantina that offers diners the chance to learn a ton about different tequilas. and mezcal.
“At Valencia Hotel Group, we focus on how each of our hotels fits into its location and culture,” said Roy Kretschmer, Executive Vice President of Operations, Valencia Hotel Group. “At the Valencia Riverwalk Hotel, we have always embraced the culture and history of San Antonio. Naranja offers the perfect setting for an authentic tequila and mezcal bar in the heart of San Antonio, and it’s where we pay homage and respect to the art of tequila making.
Juan Flores, general manager of the Valencia Riverwalk Hotel, notes that tequila and mezcal have become increasingly popular in the United States, with diners keen to learn more about what they’re sipping.
“In many ways, tequila is the new distilled spirit in America,” he says. “It’s gaining a following similar to what scotch has enjoyed for the past two decades.”
As any tequila lover knows, sipping refined firewater can eventually make you want to get into a groove. And Naranja is happy to encourage good times by hosting the Latin jazz trio Fuego, led by Jean-Philippe Rominger, for live performances Thursday to Saturday from 7pm to 10pm.
“Our long list of tequilas and mezcals, combined with the vibe of our Latin jazz trio, Fuego, make Naranja a perfect stopover along the famous San Antonio River Boardwalk,” says Flores. “We will continue to expand our tequila and mezcal offerings in the future and plan to add events, such as dinner parties and tequila tastings.”
The hotel and bar are located at 150 E. Houston St. in downtown San Antonio. Naranja is open Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight, and bar patrons can take advantage of free valet parking at the Valencia Riverwalk Hotel.
