Each June, Pride Month is celebrated nationwide to honor and represent members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Throughout Lee County and surrounding areas, several events are held for Pride Month.
‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa hopes to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment by hosting Captiva Island’s first Pride Celebration.
“Growing up, Sanibel and Captiva Islands were my second home,” said Nicholas Royka, Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts Group Sales and Events Manager. “Having been out since my teens, I have always felt a sense of community and belonging on the islands.”
‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa is hosting its first ever Pride weekend in June.
“Establishing an environment where everyone is welcome, regardless of background, is vital to us,” said Doug Babcock, CEO of Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts.
Captiva Pride Weekend is scheduled to take place Friday-Sunday, June 3-5, at ‘Tween Waters. The event will feature a variety of performers and entertainment, including a pool party, DJs, drag queens, contests and exclusive pride merchandise.
“We are committed to making this an annual event with community representation. All the talent comes from the local LGBTQIA+ community,” Royka said.
Individual Pride Passes will be available for $60 per person for access on Saturday, June 4. Full weekend Pride passes will be available for an additional $40 per person. People can also attend Pride Weekend for free if they choose to stay the weekend at one of the four top-rated Sanibel and Captiva Island resorts or vacation rentals, which can be found on the site. “Comfort and hospitality for all is something we take seriously at each of our resorts and strive to achieve,” said Mr. Babcock.
